Great Confusion oneman

Great Confusion is such a crazy, fun band. We saw them a couple weeks ago with Benom, and they convinced us to come to their oneman. Since it was only 1000y, Ren and I went for the hell of it.

Great Confusion (Grecon for short) is different than your average band in the way that they are also members of 500 other bands at once. Project Eden, Team Shibaraku, Dotti ~ Micchi, Majinga Z, etc etc etc are all made up of one or more of the members. And unfortunately they all have different names in all of the different bands. Project Eden's guitarist Kamyu did vocals for the opening band. The "leader" of all these bands is Yougiri, or Hasegawa, or Tsugumichi, or F, or Micchi, or "the very tall super happy guy", who sings lead vocals and plays guitar for Grecon (also guitar for Project Eden). It was his birthday today, so there were many birthday-related goofy things. However there is another guitarist, Machi, who also is lead vocalist. They switch back and forth between songs. Yes they are truly GREATLY CONFUSING!!

So their oneman wasn't a usual oneman. There were a variety of silly acts and insanity. Their opening act was called "Great Majinga~ Z". It consisted of their usual lineup, with a different guy (Kamyu, or Dotti) on vocals. Kamyu had a brown and while striped sweater on and looked fairly normal otherwise. Machi, shimote guitar, had a white and black striped sweater and black extensions in. Kazushi (bass) had a pink and white striped sweater, and Hasegawa on lead guitar had a red and black striped sweater with a black coat over it, sideways visor and red extension.

I'm not quite sure what they played, but they did a happy birthday to Hasegawa, and he got all teary. They played a really cutesy fun song where it was like "tonde tonde tonde!" (where we'd jump) and then "mawate mawate mawate PEACE!" where we'd jump in circles and do peace signs at the end. Lots of fun! They also played the old anime theme song Touch, which everyone rocked out to.

After they were done, it was time for Kamyu comedy hour. Kamyu, after he was not needed, kept the audience entertained while Grecon changed their clothes. He had two bags of pieces of paper with half a phrase written on them, had fans pick two randomly so they would form a silly sentence like:
"What body part of [other member] do you want the most?"
"What's a marriage proposal after waking up?"
"What's the best joke?"
"What's the cutest sushi story?"
"What's the most delicious part of [other member]'s body?"
...It got really old really quick though (he had over 20 minutes to kill), so the front line girls started writing some different words and phrases on the backs of the papers and handing them to him...
"What body part of Kamyu is the most delicious?"
"What body part of Kamyu is not for sale?"
"What's the best Kamyu joke?"
This prompted Kamyu insanity such as yelling "my whole body is delicious!!" and "You don't have to pay for me!" and other such things while offering his body spread-eagle... This ended when a question came up as "What's your best gag/joke?" to which he was QUITE eager to show off. He asked Kekke (their roadie, also a BEAT member) to bring him some ear swabs. He came back with a comb, was sent back stage again, then a pen, sent back, then an electric fan, and was looking really embarrassed but said the members backstage made him do it. Then oddly, a fan had some ear swabs in her purse for some reason, so she passed them up to him.

And he proceeded to STICK THE EAR SWABS ALL THE WAY UP HIS NOSE!! Until they disappeared, and he kept them in! He smiled and waved and walked off stage like that.

Then it was time for Great Confusion themselves. Hasegawa does vocals and guitar. He was wearing a pink and white tshirt with glittery necklaces, one shaped like a tie, had pink and purple arm warmers and scarves, and a purple hat attached to his belt. Machi also did guitar and vocals. He was in a Sex Pot jacket. Bassist Kazushi had layered sweaters, tanktops, overalls, etc. Their support drummer was Nobu, and I don't know what he was wearing.

They are really just the silliest band. Lots of weirdness, I can't even begin to describe it all. And they played tons of songs. Both Micchi and Machi sing lead vocals, switching off depending on the song. Neither of them are that great at singing, but their music is all fun bouncy stuff that doesn't require spectacular vocals or anything. At one point, they said their drummer was leaving, and they played a really cute sad song. The drummer left stage. The next few songs they used recorded tracks. And there was a dumb-sounding calypso song in there somewhere.

Since it was Hasegawa's birthday, he got some time alone with the audience. All the members but him left the stage, and he was talking and being cute, letting people take his picture and giving peace signs... then suddenly, a voice comes over the speakers! "Eeeeh?" it continues, and then a guy in a denim jacket, slicked back hair in a ponytail and big sunglasses comes out. They start harassing each other, doing a strange act, eventually giving Micchi presents. He dresses up like this random guy with a denim jacket and sunglasses, and they sing a song together. Then this guy sings an enka version (traditional Japanese-sounding) of Happy Birthday to Hasegawa, and then they sing a duet ("to me!") and he looks all teary from all the love. He's introduced as Akira from Amaterase. The rest of the band returns in different outfits... and the drummer is back. Machi was now in a tight black tshirt with white down vest, and Kazushi had a stripey sweater cardigan on. They play another song with Akira on vocals, and then Akira leaves.

But that's not all for special guests! Kamyu makes his return as... "the American", with a painted brown face and afro wig, carrying a stereo on his shoulders. They play Grecon's song with "Happy Birthday" lyrics, and Hasegawa is told to watch. He goes into the audience, standing with all the girls and sakuing as Kazushi sings. Mid-song they pull him on stage, sitting him down and dancing around him. Then Kamyu leaves.

They had more silly fun songs. One song had something to do with praying for love, with corresponding hand motions. They said cheesy things like "It's a oneman, so let's become one!" Later, Kamyu returns, with scary makeup removed and different clothes on. They repeat the earlier "mawate" song, sakuing Hasegawa 5 million times and looping it over and over.

They just didn't seem to want to end the live... it had been about 4 hours long! Ren and I had to leave before the end, but they apparently went on MUCH longer! It was a lot of fun though, even if I wasn't too familiar with the band... they know how to make a oneman entertaining!

This setlist was taken from a Japanese page, I left the song titles in the original form.
