AREA 5th Anniversary Event
On Air EAST: 05-30-2002

Bands in order: Delta Ark, +D'espairs Ray+, Kra, Baroque, k@mikaze, Shulla, Fatima, Syndrome, Nightmare

On Air East was really big, compared to places I've been in America. There was definitely over 100 people there... the place was packed. There is a balcony in the back were dudes with cameras hang out, and the main area in front. There was a bar (not the drink kind, the pole kind) across the front, which was about 3 feet high and about 2.5 feet from the stage, which is about 5 feet high. There were drinks in the back and blah blah blah. Everyone in the back was sprawled out on the floor making it hard to get to the drinks.

Delta ark- Okay, they were the first act, and no one was really into it. They were kinda soft for my taste, but not boring, I think the crowd was just getting warmed up. They looked like a local punk band... which is kinda sad.

+D'espairs ray+ (secret)- Now this was very very cool. I had no idea they were gonna be there and then Saiya starts talking about them and I was like whoa. Then there they were, all decked out in cool costumes looking really really cool. The vocalist (Hizumi) was rubbing his wenis the whole time, which I found quite entertaining. Very very cool again, good and loud...I like.

Kra- Almost sickeningly cute. All adorable, the guitarist, a blonde with bunny ears and a fox tail or something was bouncing around and being cute and smiley. The vocalist was also being cute and smiley and tiny, heehee so cute. They were definitely the softest sounding band there but weren't bad at all, they were way too cute and smiling way too much to really headbang to. The poor vocalist, his fly was unzipped the entire time and Saiya, Saiya's friends, this random girl next to us and I were the only ones who noticed. We were laughing so hard we were just being supported by the crowd, if it had been empty, I would have literally been rolling on the floor laughing my ass off, which I can't say about that much. Anyway the poor guy was staring at us and must have thought we were all insane. Saiya was making fly zipping motions at him and yelling "your zipper" or "your fly", but I think all this just added to his confusion. Anyway, that was interesting.

Baroque (secret)- Sounded frighteningly like soft core punk (like Saiya said) and looked it too, still good because I like punkish stuff and that what I am used to. I don't remember much of them though, they were not the most memorable act ever, but good.

k@mikaze- Punk punk punk...the guitarist was wearing a Rancid shirt!!! A RANCID SHIRT!!! Why god why!!! I love Rancid but I am in Japan and if I wanted to see punk, hell I'd go see punk! They were repetitive, but good at getting the crowd going, people were pretty nuts, and there was much headbanging.

Shulla- This was insane. There were these girls who were just crazy at the front and god it was nuts. Fun though a lot of shoving, I was trying to shove a fat girl out of the way for the little friend I made because she was here to see them. The fat girl, however, was the consistency of a bag of wet cement if you can imagine that, and I didn't have much luck.

Fatima- SEX GODS!!!! SANAKA IS THE SEXIEST THING I HAVE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE!!!! FUCKING GOD DAMN SEX GOD!!! They were the coolest band by far, in my opinion and that's not just because I went with Saiya. They were just so good, their songs were good and you could tell the difference between them. There was energy, it was fucking great, I could have stood there for 4 hours just drooling over Sanaka. They didn't do any fanservice, which made me very disappointed... but if I liked them so much without it, I must go see them again at a smaller live house where Saiya said they would be a bit more daring... I want to see. hehe Sanaka (who I am now completely obsessed with) got pushed off the stage and landed right near me... I practically groped him, and was covered in his sweat later. I grabbed his hand and wouldn't let go until he got pulled back on the stage. Unfortunately, I was still a few feet from the front thanks to manatee-girl, but I touched him hehehe I did I touched him!!! ::infatuated girly sigh:: I am going to see them again on the 15th with Saiya (yay) ::molest molest molest::

Syndrome (guest)- Now this is a band who I have seen pictures of all the time but never really listened to. They were exactly what I expected-- cool looking but very old-school sounding, I tend to like a bit more hardcore. The crowd was mellow and doing those weird fangirly hand things the whole time, they were okay but the music didn't excite me so much. It was just cool seeing a band that I always thought of as very visual.

Nightmare- Kick ass!!! Very loud fast and cool. I like very much, went to the front again for this one, and had a blast, people were crazy again. I got a good look at them... they're scary in a sexy way, and the vocalist (YOMI) is so tiny! hahaha he is adorable, just the cutest thing ever!! The red haired guitarist with all the piercings was just so damn cool looking, and the rest of them were fucking hot as well (although the hottest-guy-I-have-ever-seen-award goes to Sanaka). I liked them very much and I hope to get a chance to see them again, I really really want to... mmmmm cool and sexy...loud and insane...very fun.
